Children 1st West Berkshire (Registered Charity Number: 1126749) supports children and young people age 16 -25 who have been in care, or are homeless, in West Berkshire. Care leavers take priority and we will support up to the age of 25 in exceptional circumstances.
We provide a one-to-one individual skills programme tailored to the needs of each young person e.g. budget cooking, money management, communication skills, interview skills.
Our expectation is that the young people will return to education, volunteer within the community or find work. Our long-term aim is to make them fully independent.
The young people must want to work, have ambition, be prepared to fully engage in any training that is on offer and have a strong desire to make the best of their abilities. We believe that every young person, whatever their start in life, can achieve their dreams with the right skills and support.
A resident writes: 'The staff at the Charity are absolutely brilliant, they don’t act like a parent, but a good friend who you can always talk to and they understand you, which is great.
The support us residents get at Cornerstones is beyond fantastic.'
