Children 1st West Berkshire (Registered Charity Number: 1126749) supports children and young people age 16 -25 who have been in care, or are homeless, in West Berkshire. Care leavers take priority and we will support up to the age of 25 in exceptional circumstances.
Our expectation is that the young people will return to education, volunteer within the community or find work. Our long-term aim is to make them fully independent.
The young people must want to work, have ambition, be prepared to fully engage in any training that is on offer and have a strong desire to make the best of their abilities. We believe that every young person, whatever their start in life, can achieve their dreams with the right skills and support.
Everyone can achieve their ambitions
Our two young men with Peter Lindsay Director of 03e Charity Bike build receiving their new bikes (dec 2013).
We are the first organisation in West Berkshire to have been awarded BRONZE accreditation for Simple Quality Protects - a quality scheme for small voluntary organisations and championed by West Berkshire Council. We hope to attain SILVER early 2014.
Christmas isn't much fun with no family to share it with, no stocking or presents under the tree. Have a look in your cupboards for nice toiletries, vouchers, DVDs etc (new, please) - anything that will make our 3 young men and one young lady smile on Christmas Day. IMPORTANT NEWS - Foster children may stay with carers until age 21 - announced 04-12-2013
Children in care in England will be able to stay with their foster families until their 21st birthday, rather than having to leave at 18, ministers say today (4th Dec 2013). The Department for Education is imposing a legal duty on councils to provide financial support for those who want to stay longer with foster carers.
